Reacting Nozzle Flow

چکیده

The two limits, “frozen” and “equilibrium” flow share an important property: both are isentropic flows (if we ignore friction or heat losses). This is because, in the frozen case no chemical change during expansion), there are no rate processes at all occurring, the molecules preserving their identity all the way, while in the equilibrium case, in which reactions do occur, their rate is so high (compared to the expansion rate) that conditions adjust continuously to maintain equilibrium at the local pressure and enthalpy level, with the result that the whole process can be regarded as reversible (and hence isentropic). For any more realistic intermediate conditions, in which reactions may proceed at rates comparable to that of the expansion, these finite rate reactions produce an irreversibility, and a consequent entropy increase.

Stagnation flow and flame simulations

Axisymmetric jets impinging perpendicularly on a wall are encountered in a variety of real-life situations such as Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) processes (Goodwin, 2003). Although the fluid mechanics of the wall-impinging jets are interesting phenomena in their own right, this topic is studied here for two reasons. The first is to assess the extent to which experimental data and numerical da...

Experimental Investigation of Supersonic Mixing Mechanisms of HYLTE Nozzle for DF Chemical Laser

Utilizing experimental techniques of Nano-particle based Planar Laser Scattering (NPLS) and schlieren photography, the flow patterns and mixing characteristics of a designed HYLTE (HYpersonic Low TEmperature) nozzle were investigated in this paper. In order to visualize the non-reacting flowfield of supersonic angled jets into a supersonic crossflow in the HYLTE nozzle, a testing section with w...

Modeling of Chemically Reacting Flows from a Side Jet at High Altitudes

The interaction of a jet from a 60-lbf (267-N) thruster positioned on the side of a small rocket, with the rarefied atmosphere between altitudes of 80 to 160 km, is studied numerically. A multistep approach is employed, which combines the successive computation of the flow inside the thruster using a Navier–Stokes solver, the axisymmetric plume core flow, and chemically reacting three-dimension...

Flow Visualization of Angled Supersonic Jets into a Supersonic Cross Flow

This paper describes Nano-particle based Planar Laser Scattering (NPLS) flow visualization of angled supersonic jets into a supersonic cross flow based on the HYpersonic Low TEmperature (HYLTE) nozzle which was widely used in DF chemical laser. In order to investigate the non-reacting flowfield in the HYLTE nozzle, a testing section with windows was designed and manufactured. The impact of seco...

Influence of nozzle geometry and injection conditions on the cavitation flow inside a diesel injector

Cavitation and turbulence in a diesel injector nozzle has a great effect on the development and primary breakup of spray. However, the mechanism of the cavitation flow inside the nozzle and its influence on spray characteristics have not been clearly known yet because of the internal nozzle flow complexities. In this paper, a comprehensive numerical simulation is carried out to study the intern...
